The ORIGINAL Smokers' Haven is a deep rooted tradition in Columbus, Ohio and the nation. In the 1940's late Joe Ziev and his brother-in-law, Sid Ritter, opened shop and became the largest pipe retailer in the U.S. by the mid sixties. Joe and Sid sought out the finest briar pipes, and designed the very best blends of premium pipe tobaccos for their customers to enjoy. They were so successful that in an average week they sold over 1000 new pipes!  They brought in tobaccos by the truckload and shipped it nationwide to thousands of customers. Anxiously awaited mailers were sent to over 30,000 readers - gigantic 40" x 40" two-sided brochures offering the best new items for pipe, tobacco and cigar enthusiasts. In their shop at 47 East Gay Street, no salesman was allowed on the sales floor without his own lit pipe! (Try to get that by today!) Joe & Sid were by far the largest importers of Ganneval, Bondier and Donninger (GBD) pipes in the US.  They made frequent trips to GBD in England to essentially dictate the years production runs which were entirely consumed by The ORIGINAL Smokers' Haven's customers. In the 1970's, Joe & Sid retired.  They passed the operation to a new owner who moved a couple times over about 20 years.  We were passed the torch in 1995 and continue Joe & Sid's great tradition today. Over the years the overall emphasis of our shop's offerings have changed somewhat to accommodate contemporary tastes. We offer the finest hand-made cigars in the world, and still offer fine briar pipes and all of Joe & Sid's premium tobacco blends which made us famous. We continue to serve Joe & Sid's original customers with monthly shipments of their favorite tobaccos, pipes and accessories. Of course we offer the same service to our new friends, too!
